Day 91: Turtle Time Down Under!

G'day, mates! It’s Day 91 of the Whoop Whoop Walk About tour countdown, and while most people are decking the halls, we’re decking the backyard! Why? Because the tropical weather has turned our humble patch of Aussie paradise into Turtle Central. Yep, thanks to all this rain, the local turtles have decided it’s time to roll out the red carpet (or should I say the wet carpet?) and start laying eggs right in our backyard.

Why Do Turtles Love This Weather?

Turtles are like Aussie holidaymakers—they love a good storm to get things moving. The rain softens the ground, making it easier for these little legends to dig their nests. Plus, the moisture helps regulate the temperature of the eggs, ensuring the next generation of shell-backed battlers has a good start in life. And let’s not forget, rain means fewer predators lurking around. Smart little buggers, aren’t they?

A Backyard Spectacle

Imagine this: I’m out there, barefoot with a cup of Milo, and suddenly, there’s a turtle digging away like it’s auditioning for a tradie job. I tried to offer it a trowel, but it wasn’t having a bar of it. Watching them work is better than anything you’ll find on telly—unless you count The Block, but even Scotty Cam can’t compete with this level of craftsmanship.

Why Visit Shepparton This Season?

You don’t need to go to the Great Barrier Reef to experience turtle magic. Come on down to Shepparton and join us at Whoop Whoop Walk About, where you can learn about Aboriginal culture, spot turtles doing their thing, and maybe even throw a boomerang (warning: it might not come back).

So, forget the shopping mall chaos—spend a day with us and get a bit of turtle-egg-laying wisdom instead. You’ll leave with a full heart, a good laugh, and maybe some mud on your boots.
