Day 84: Survival Tips from the Bush – Women's Wisdom and Contraceptive Plants

G’day from the bush! On Day 84 of the Whoop Whoop Walk About, we’re diving into the fascinating traditional knowledge surrounding plants and their uses for women’s health and "women's business." While many plants were used in healing, some had unique applications.

One example is the native yam (Dioscorea species), which contains natural compounds similar to modern contraceptives. These yams were used in specific ways by Aboriginal women, showcasing the incredible depth of their knowledge of the land.

Although Emu Bush (Eremophila longifolia) isn’t known specifically for contraceptive use, it played an important role in traditional medicine, particularly for its antimicrobial properties, making it invaluable in women's health practices.

Curious about more survival tips or the medicinal wonders of the bush? What do you want to know about the plants, animals, and traditions of this vast land? Ask away, and we’ll share the wisdom passed down through generations.
