Day 44 – Practicing Lore from the Heart: The Circle of Life

On country, colour is essential—especially the colour brought by the local mob, woven into the fabric of this land. They are part of the song lines, bloodlines, and creative power that shaped Whoop Whoop Walk About into being. Every step we take is for the future generations, so they don’t get lost in foreign cultures but stay grounded in the truth of our lore and traditions.

In our culture, we live by the circle. Everyone is answerable to each other. When you break that circle, you break the trust, the lore. There are no big leaders, no bosses—just us, equal and united under the true lore of this land. The songs, dances, and stories we create carry the wisdom of the Burri Burri (Weapon), and the loremen, who know the ancient ways. These songs remind us of love, sharing, and how we must change the way we treat each other.

Feathers and the colour red hold deep meaning in our culture. Red symbolises the colour of the land and now symbolises the missing and murdered women—the cradle of survival for our warriors and our society. If the lore is broken, any gifts given must be returned, or sickness and bad luck will follow.

This is the strength of our lore—it holds true wherever Aboriginal people practice it, and it ensures that the future generations understand their roots, their stories, and their responsibility to the land and each other. Its better to right the wrong you done. Or return the gifts then to hide or hold onto these things out of pride.
