Day 34: A Bushman’s Guide to Road Safety and Seals in Disrepair

G'day, fellow road adventurers! So, you’re out on the open road, wind in your hair, tires on the tarmac—except wait, that tarmac has more holes than a roo's memory! The seals on these roads are about as reliable as a rusty ute, and it’s got me thinking: what’s a bushman’s trick to staying safe when dodging potholes, oncoming cars, and the odd wandering wombat? Well, here’s your crash course in Outback Road Survival.

Safety Tip #1: The Pothole Zig-Zag

First off, dodging potholes is an art form. But here's the golden rule: if it’s bigger than your hubcap, swerve (carefully). If you’re playing "chicken" with an oncoming car, it’s best to blink first. There's no heroism in getting two vehicles bogged in a hole deeper than a dingo’s den.

Bushman-Style Tire Change

Now, if you DO cop a flat, don't panic. Bushmen have been changing tires since before the wheel was round! Step 1: find a sturdy stick (because in the bush, that’s your jack). Step 2: Use that stick to lever your car up—no fancy tools needed. Step 3: Replace the tire with the spare, but always make sure you’ve tightened the nuts (with your stick if needed). Easy as a snag on the barbie, right?
