National Park

After your camel adventure, it’s time to head into the heart of Barmah National Park. Known for its lush wetlands and towering River Red Gums, this park is a natural wonderland. We’ll take you on a walk through the bush, where you’ll discover the ancient Canoe Trees—evidence of the ingenious ways Aboriginal people used the land.

You’ll learn how the land’s original inhabitants lived, hunted, and thrived. And keep your eyes peeled for cheeky emus—they’re always up to something!

Day 2: Yeddonba Cultural Experience & Ned Kelly’s Legacy

Yeddonba, Mt Pilot: A Journey Through Time

Day two kicks off with a visit to Yeddonba, Mt Pilot, where the ancient meets the modern in a landscape rich with cultural significance. Here, you’ll explore the Rock Shelter and learn about traditional Bush Tucker—nature’s own supermarket, used by the Aboriginal people for thousands of years.

Thylacine Painting & Spirit Animals

One of the highlights is the Thylacine painting, an ancient artwork depicting the now-extinct Tasmanian Tiger. We’ll also introduce you to the concept of Spirit Animals and Sacred Sites, connecting you with the spiritual side of the land.

Walk to Woolshed Falls

Next up, we’ll stretch our legs with a scenic walk to Woolshed Falls, a picturesque spot that’s perfect for a photo op. The falls are not just beautiful; they’re steeped in history, and we’ll share stories of the gold rush days and the legends who once roamed these lands.

Ned Kelly Walking Tour

We wrap up Day 2 with the Ned Kelly Walking Tour. Follow in the footsteps of Australia’s most famous (or infamous) bushranger and learn about his daring exploits and the lasting impact he left on the country. It’s a bit of Aussie history with a side of rebellion!

Day 3: Warby Ovens – The Original Bushcraft Lesson

On Day 3 of your adventure through Kwat Kwat country Country, we’re taking a trip to the Warby Grass Tree — a living reminder that Aboriginal Australians were doing “DIY” long before it was cool! Forget Bunnings, mate — this is ancient bushcraft at its finest. The grass tree, in Warby National Park, shows where the Kat Kat people skilfully removed resin to crafted canoes, spears.

Now, don't go thinking they just hacked away at trees willy-nilly! Oh no, this was precision work. The Kwat Kwat were conservationists before it had a hashtag. They’d only take what they needed, and the trees would keep on growing, leaving behind these remarkable scars as natural records of their handiwork. You could say it’s the original Aussie recycling!

While you’re standing in front of this ancient marvel, just imagine trying to cut of the flower spike off and gather the resin of the tree in 40-degree heat with snkes nesting at the top with a tool made from stone and not a power saw in sight. It’s like an episode of Survivor, but with way better skills. And if you’re feeling crafty yourself, maybe give the ol’ pocket knife a rest and try making your next project the traditional way. Just kidding, mate — leave the grass tree as is, or your guide will have a stern word with ya.

Winton Wet Lands: A Canoe and a Story

After all that bushcraft talk, you’ve earned a dip or paddle with River Country Adventours! Head down to Winton Wetlands, a perfect naure reserve feed by the Warby Falls. But don't just pack your towel and sunscreen — this paddle isn’t all about fun in the sun. The Kwat Kwat people have lived along this stretch of the Swamp for millennia, fishing, camping, and gathering around the reserve for ceremonies.

Now, keep your eye out for any hidden cultural clues — if you spot a scar tree, that’s ancient evidence of someone’s dinner party from centuries ago. It’s like the Aboriginal version of chucking a shrimp on the barbie, but with a side of deep respect for the land and water.

But fair warning — if you hear a splash behind you, it’s probably just a fish... or maybe the elusive Wetlands Bunyip! (Nah, just kidding again... or am I?)
